Fire Emblem: Awakening is the first Nintendo-made title to incorporate downloadable content. The second game could be Animal Crossing 3DS. Speaking at Nintendo’s latest financial results briefing, president Satoru Iwata said that “the next Animal Crossing might be a game which relies upon add-on content sales.” You can find even more quotes from Iwata here. Between our summary post from the event and indivual quotes scattered on the front page, I believe we’ve covered all significant information. I’d prefer not to overload you guys with superfluous quotes and posts that we’ve covered in summary format, so visit that link for some extra words from Nintendo’s president. Pues Nintendo World Report también se hace eco de la noticia: Animal Crossing on the Nintendo 3DS is likely to make use of DLC, according to Nintendo President Satoru Iwata at Nintendo's end-of-the-year investor meeting. While discussing Nintendo's policy on additional download content, Iwata remarked "the next Animal Crossing might be a game which relies upon add-on content sales." Currently Nintendo has not announced what their plans for DLC in this game are. However, my personal speculation suggests download content would include special furniture sets and other exclusive items. Animal Crossing 3DS is due out in fall in Japan. As we approach the game's release, information on the download content will likely become available. To some, Animal Crossing on 3DS sounds like the ideal opportunity to sell as much digital add-on content as possible, but Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has again stated the company's strong opposition to this model. Iwata told investors Nintendo will stick to its ethos of not selling products that consumers would deem "incomplete", preserving its relationship with customers. He particularly spoke out against so-called "gacha-type" business models, which mimic the popular capsule toy machines by asking users to pay upfront without knowing which particular item will come through. In Animal Crossing parlance, imagine buying a chair without knowing which series it was from. Of course Iwata didn't say that Animal Crossing 3DS won't feature add-on content — both Wii and DS versions have received regular, free updates — but that Nintendo is sticking to its principles: We will continue to make efforts to avoid such misunderstandings as, “the next ‘Animal Crossing’ might be a game which relies upon add-on content sales.” As for a Western release date, Iwata said that information will be revealed "at a later date." The most recent schedule lists its release date outside Japan as "to be determined."
